The third stakeholders event, part of DETOCS project – DEcarbonising the TOurism Industry Post Covid-19 Support, was held on August 2nd, 2024, at the municipal building of Peshtera, Bulgaria. This time, the event took place on the territory of the technical partner REAP (Regional Energy Agency of Pazardzhik) which is the Province of Pazardzhik, while the Policy owner, Burgas Municipality, joined online.

Experts from the Regional Energy Agency of Pazardjik presented the main objectives of the project, its progress, and more precisely: good practices of green tourism projects from Malta and Finland. Experts from Burgas Municipality made an overview of the political instruments which has to be improved during the DETOCS project, and briefly introduced their main objectives within the project.

DETOCS is particularly relevant to stakeholders from Pazardzhik Province and Peshtera Municipality, because the region is famous with its mountainous and SPA resorts, and it is a popular touristic destination to many tourists in Bulgaria, and also on the Balkan Peninsular.

The event concluded with a public debate on the topic how renewable energy sources (RES) and energy efficiency (EE) projects could be deployed in the touristic sector, and how the stakeholders from Pazardzhik Province can take advantage of DETOCS results in order to stimulate the development of environmental and eco-friendly tourism in the Province.

Participants of this event were representatives of public administrations (Peshtera, Pazardzhik, and Burgas), as well as civil organizations (Association CSEG), energy agency, social officers, and an SMEs representative (NEST).
