The INFIRE project was presented during the workshop “Building Skills and Knowledge to Accelerate the Energy Transition and Adapt to Climate Change”

On May 26, 2026, a workshop “Building Skills and Knowledge to Accelerate the Energy Transition and Adapt to Climate Change” was organized in the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Sofia, Bulgaria. The event was attended by energy agencies from across the country, representatives of municipal administrations, and other stakeholders.

The INFIRE project – “INnovative FInancing solutions for climate planning of REsilient and carbon neutral living areas”, co-funded by the Interreg Euro-MED Programme, was presented by representatives from the Regional Energy Agency of Pazardjik (REAP). The main goal of the INFIRE project is to create a long-term support structure for capacity building among public authorities in the participating regions to develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive solutions and policy instruments for climate adaptation and carbon neutrality.

Experts from REAP highlighted the project’s main objectives, partnership and pilot activities coming from different partner regions. The main focus was on the activities and results achieved so far in Bulgaria, which include the establishment of an Energy Help Desk in the municipality of Peshtera for consultations on topics related to climate change and energy efficiency. To increase the citizens’ engagement, two complementary activities were planned – home visits to vulnerable households and small workshops with citizens, during which topics such as energy poverty and climate change are discussed. To support these two initiatives, the so-called INFIRE Energy Box was created, which serves as an engagement tool by helping citizens better understand their energy consumption and learn simple and affordable ways to reduce it.

The INFIRE project presentation was followed by a discussion on topics such as: energy efficiency, sustainable energy solutions, how to prevent energy poverty and include new innovative opportunities and measures in our households.
